blog-a-boo
What I’ve been up to, in the tiniest way (in between resting, thinking, and staring into space): Making stuff out of other stuff. For example, this spectacular mobile (left) made from some old kitchen utensils that had holes and splinters. A piece of driftwood, some wire and glass beads makes this reuse-a-riffic. If I do say so. A bit of painting and gluing. Crafty stuff. Making art. I rather like putting on a smock and getting my fingers painty. Keeping up with the tomato crop — still, mid-November. Not many big tomatoes, but hundreds of yellow pear and red cherry tomatoes in the yard — maybe half of them from…

fall-winter-cold-sneeze
It’s still fall but in California, this is also what winter looks like. We don’t have seasons, we have weather: hot, fog, rain, wind. Sometimes cold, but not that cold. The cold of which I speak in the headline is myown — I caught the one my daughter had and instead of baking bread and cleaning my bathroom bowl, I’m slouching around and drinking tea in my bathrobe. Sexy! Yesterday the cold (mine) was coming on, so I popped a lot of cough drops and kept plowing ahead. The last day ofthe fall Friends of the Library Used Book Sale was yesterday — the clearance sale (see pic for the…

back in the saddle again
Yes, well-ish enough to resume the writing. Hi, peoples, and glad to be back. It was gorgeously hot while I was ill, and now that I’m feeling healthy again, or on my way to it, the June Gloom of Northern California summer has arrived, so it’s blowing cold wind and fog outside. Brr. Just what the doctor didn’t order. Busy weeks, the next few — D#3 is heading for graduation and all its attendant activities. D#2 is almost finished with her semester at CoA and planning ahead for her heavy summer semester. D#4 is getting used to her new school and looking for a job, and getting ready to turn…

mayday, mayday
… or day after May Day (happy birthday to sister Carolyn, aka CJ). I’m playing Compactor Fun at my house today even though it’s raining and I can’t hang out laundry. I had a bunch of herbs hanging to dry in the sun but they got rained on and now are perfuming my compost pile. How annoying and wasteful. I also have a bit of the creeping crud, cough, etc, that isn’t enough to be terrible or go away. So inside I stay. I’ve been refilling soap dispensers and lotion pumps from various other sources — I have so many half-finished tubes and bottles of lotion that I have been…

Coolio
Barack is da bomb. How cool is he? Super cool. I couldn’t be happier. I’m sure not everyone feels this way. But as for me and my house, we will celebrate. I ate one of the persimmon muffins for breakfast. What did it taste like? Pumpkin, sort of. A fruity spice cake. It was good. It was fine. Yum. I’ve been bringing my lunch almost every day since the star of the new year. I was doing that before, but not on days we have trade-lunches at work. We used to have a trade for Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. We still have Tuesday and Thursday but I’m not eating…
