    reposting an old post

This is from 2 weeks ago that didn’t post properly. Geez. We did a lot of baking yesterday. I had a bagful of persimmons (the Fuyu variety, which are firm and can be eaten like an apple) but they were starting to get softer. I also had some apples that were getting a bit wrinkly. I cut up the apples and the firm persimmons and made a crumble, with oatmeal and cinnamon on top. Had some last night with vanilla ice cream on top (Dreyer’s Grand, locally made — AKA Edy’s Grand in other parts of the country). With the softer persimmons, I pureed them and made a batch of…

    elections and such

Glory be and praise Jah — the election is over and I can finally stop thinking about it. In the news biz, we don’t have the luxury of not caring — we have to follow this stuff and write stories about it (fair coverage for all candidates) and so on. I was counting the days til the election was over so I could sit quietly and think about nothing in particular. Glad to know I can finally do so. adventures in sustainability

Doesn’t that sound BORING? Or oxymoronic? Eh, maybe. Kind of like me — boring and oxymorinic most days of the week. Yesterday was a recovery day, when I did nothing much but read, lie down, eat, read, knit, lie down, rest, nap, eat, and check my email. I needed it. It was good for the body and soul. Today Mr. Husband is busily preparing for his Jimmy Buffett concert — the one I was also going to until 2 days ago when my sciatica screamed at me. Now, the thought of standing on the lawn for 3-4 hours does not sound like fun. So I’m staying home with the chickadees.…

    moments in time

What have I done for you lately? Not much. I’ve found that I’m on full-whelm, which is a shade below overwhelm. And doing fine here, thank you. I didn’t know I could juggle this well. Or at all. Clearly, I am learning. What I did this week: 1. Didn’t receive hate mail from anyone. Did buy 1-cent stamps. Did send very small check to favorite political candidate. His name starts with an O and rhymes with Mama. 2. Made several school lunches that did not get eaten. Took one of those with me to work when daughter forgot/rejected it, only to have to give it to her at school because…

    Sunday Times

We had a busy day rearranging our bedrooms with the new sectional pieces of couch in 2 rooms — given to us by friends Carrie and Peter, two pieces for Ana and two pieces for our bedroom. Plus I stripped all the beds and washed blankets, comforters, and throw rugs, etc, hanging them all on the line. That is a *task*. But our bedroom looks great with the chaise — nice throw cover over it and a trunk that was at the foot of our bed is now the “coffee table” — i.e. footrest for Mr Husband. It’s quite luxurious to have a sofa in the bedroom. I hadn’t realized…
