Today’s to-dos (and to-dids)
Nurse sore finger. Feed chickies. Feed cats. Feed birds. Make coffee. Eat breakfast. Load dishwasher, clean up kitchen. Drink more coffee. Think about sore finger. Wash a load of Mr. Husband’s shirts. Hang to dry outside, since it’s sunny and windy. Straighten up where the smaller people have been. Do these chores with index finger elevated and try to keep it out of harm’s way. Look at garden and try to figure out how to add in extra raised beds and where the wood will come from. Buy it new? Bite your tongue. Post a want-ad on Freecycle asking for corrugated aluminum or plastic to fix the chicken coop roof.…

happy bird-day to me
Yep. It’s that day. Two score and seven years ago today, my poor mother was just about done having me, and I got on with my own life. Here I am still, having my own life! Today I celebrated with Starbux in bed (a venti house blend with room for cream), then went over to dear friend Mary Lee’s house where she gave me Irish breakfast tea and artisanal Irish soda bread, and we caught up after a couple of months of missing our usual Thursday tea. Mr. Husband kindly got my car’s oil changed and picked up The Boy from his other house while I had tea with the fabu…

my morning in pictures
Photos from a well examined life. This is my dining room work-station. My avocado plant is awe-inspiring. To me, anyway. Breakfast of scrub jays. Kitchen windowsills. Look who came for breakfast? A Cooper’s hawk (left). Finches at the feeder (right) could be his b’fast. And this is mine. Grapenuts and milk. Ju-u-u-u-u-st right.

The big storms (such as they are in California) were wonderful, loud and very wet. More, please! However, the sliding glass door leaks, and I had to stuff the cracks with plastic bags to keep the rain out. Now, a week or so later, guess what I find? Little green sprouts in the carpet, and shiny, sluggy-snail tracks…

blog-a-boo
What I’ve been up to, in the tiniest way (in between resting, thinking, and staring into space): Making stuff out of other stuff. For example, this spectacular mobile (left) made from some old kitchen utensils that had holes and splinters. A piece of driftwood, some wire and glass beads makes this reuse-a-riffic. If I do say so. A bit of painting and gluing. Crafty stuff. Making art. I rather like putting on a smock and getting my fingers painty. Keeping up with the tomato crop — still, mid-November. Not many big tomatoes, but hundreds of yellow pear and red cherry tomatoes in the yard — maybe half of them from…
